SHILLONG, MAR 27: The state government on Friday set up four quarantine centres in the state with a capacity to provide care to 400 patients.
Informing this, deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong told reporters that two quarantine centres have been set up in Shillong and another two in Tura, West Garo Hills District.
In Shillong, the quarantine centres or corona isolation centres are located at Indian Institue of Management (IIM) Shillong, Nongthymmai and at Meghalaya Administrative Training Institute (MATI) in Mawdiangdiang.
According to Tynsong, the four quarantine centres can accommodate 400 plus people. “A team of doctors and paramedical staffs will be available at these centres 24×7,” he said.
Asked, the deputy chief minister said if need be, the government may also set up similar centres in other districts as well. “We may also come down to the block level but it will all depend on the situation,” he added.
Stating that there has not been a single case of COVID-19 detected in the state so far, Tynsong said that this is because people are adhering to the government advisories.
He said that over 6,000 people have been screened in the state as he informed that all their biodata have been registered with the government and health department is keeping a track and is talking to them everyday.
Referring to reports that some people have decided to run away to the jungle to isolate themselves, Tynsong said this is totally wrong.
“Therefore, I urge the people to please calm down as this disease is very much curable and this has been declared by the World Health Organization (WHO). It is curable in the sense that you have to strictly follow the advisories,” he said.
Meanwhile, the deputy chief minister informed that the government is also procuring more ventilators. “While 39 ventilators are already in place, another 24 are on their way,” he said.
