SHILLONG, OCT 10: The Meghalaya government has announced reduction of petrol and diesel prices by Rs 2.50 per litre.
The announcement was made by the deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong after a cabinet meeting chaired by the chief minister Conrad K Sangma here on Wednesday.
“After a detailed discussion, the cabinet has approved the proposal for reducing the price of petrol and diesel by Rs 2.50 per litre and this will take effective immediately from tomorrow,” Tynsong told reporters.
He said this was in line with the recent decision taken by the Central government to reduce the price of petrol and diesel by Rs 2.50 per litre.
Also terming the cabinet’s decision as a bold one, the deputy chief minister informed that the state government is forced to bear an additional expenditure of Rs 15 crore annually.
He also said accordingly the concerned departments such as the ERTS, forests, mining & geology, transport and others have been asked to find out ways and means to generate additional revenue.
Asked, Tynsong however said there is no question of being pressurized from the Centre but it was the state government’s own courageous decision to reduce prices of petrol and diesel.
