Meghalaya emerged as best performing state for PMGSY implementation

SHILLONG, FEB 3: Meghalaya has been adjudged as the best performing state in as far as implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) is concerned.

 

Informing this on Thursday, Deputy Chief Minister in-charge PWD (Roads) Prestone Tynsong said that this was announced during a recent meeting held with the Union Minister for Rural Development Giriraj Singh.

 

“He (Singh) reviewed the performance of the state as far as PMGSY implementation is concerned and I would like to tell to all of you that right now in the NE states, we are the best performing state as far as PMGSY implementation is concerned,” Tynsong told reporters.

 

He informed that out of 1,300 kms of PMGSY road targeted under Phase-I and Phase-II, about 1,000 kms have been completed. The Union Minister for Rural Development himself has praised the performance of the state government.

 

Stating that the department is looking towards implementing the phase-III, Tynsong said, “Hopefully by the start of the new financial year 2022-23, the target again for this is about 1,250 kms of PMGSY upgradation of the existing roads.”

 

“I have already instructed the secretary and  chief engineer of the PWD, to work day and night and make sure that the target is met at the earliest possible,” he added.

 

On the numbers of projects under the PWD department to be inaugurated as part of 50 years of statehood celebrations, the deputy chief minister said the department is working out  and it will be known after the budget session.

 

“So many inaugurations will take place no doubt about it and this will be dedicated to the people of the state on attaining 50 years of our statehood,” he said.
