TURA, JAN 17: The 43rd Meghalaya Day celebration will begin at Tura in West Garo Hills from January 19 – 21. The three day festival will showcase the rich diversity, progress, growth and development of Meghalaya, apart from a colourful commemoration of the statehood. The different events will be held at DC Park here.
This year theme for Meghalaya day at Tura is — ‘Clean and Green Meghalaya’ and ‘Peaceful and Resurgent Meghalaya’.
During the event, an appeal will be made from to various outfits to shun violence and eschew the path of peace. Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma will address the gathering at Tura on Wednesday.
On Monday, there will be a painting and drawing competition for school children which will be followed by musical concert on the second day. The three day celebration will culminate on Wednesday.
The other highlight of the festival will be honouring of musical, art and culture stalwarts of the A’chik society.
Several stalls is being put up by government departments to demonstrate different activities of the government, apart from food stalls. A marathon run will also be organised as part of the observance of statehood day.- From Our Correspondent
