“As you begin your career, you should imbibe in yourself a sense of responsibility to serve the people with a purpose. A purpose that will enable you to make choices as you discharge your duties,” he said, while addressing a group of 38 new MCS recruits during their inaugural induction ceremony at Meghalaya Administrative Training Institute (MATI) at Mawdiangdiang, Shillong.
Motivating the new MCS recruits, the Chief Minister elaborated on the responsibilities and challenges that lie ahead. “If you think that your purpose is to sit in office from 9 am – 5 pm and clear files and sanction schemes, this is just part of your duty and not the purpose for which you are in civil services,” he said, while encouraging the officers to serve the State and its people with utmost sincerity and integrity.
Urging the officers to be focused, he said that every officer should work with passion to serve the society and make an effective change for the purpose of taking the State towards the pedestal of growth.
“Our purpose should be to take the State forward. Our purpose needs to be to make transformative change for the overall wellbeing of the society,” he said.
Talking on the challenges that lie ahead, the Chief Minister said that every officer should come up with innovative ways to overcome situations and provide constructive and objective solutions while discharging their duties in serving the State.
“As an officer, we should keep people first and work with a concerted effort to always serve the public and create a progressive society within the framework of the system we work in,” he added.
He also cautioned the officer that with their position, comes power and responsibilities and they have to be prepared to take on all challenges. “You may at times get frustrated, but politeness and humbleness is the key to overcome such situations and make a positive difference in the society,” he emphasized.
The new MCS officer 2021 batch will undergo six months administrative training at MATI. The new officers were administered the oath of allegiance by Additional Chief Secretary and Director General of MATI Rebecca V. Suchiang.
