SHILLONG, APRIL 16: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government will continue even if there is a change of guard at the Centre after the Lok Sabha elections.
“We are very clear that for us the MDA government will continue. Whatever happens in Delhi is something which the people of this country will decide,” Sangma said on Tuesday.
“The way we have started and how we are doing our work we will continue to do it in the same way but let us wait for the results and once it comes out only then will know on what really is going to happen,” he added.
The chief minister also admitted that the issue related to the Citizenship Amendment Bill has been a concern for every single citizen of the North East and the country as a whole.
“There is no doubt that it is an issue…and I am sure this is an issue that people must have thought of during the campaign and also during the voting and that is the reason why all political parties mentioned about CAB,” he said.
Sangma further reminded that NPP and the MDA government were the first to vehemently oppose the CAB. “We made sure that the people know…the stand of the government,” he added.
Stating that the BJP’s stand on the issue has remain unchanged, he however said, “Their (BJP) stand remained the same even now and we have also been very clear on our stand that we will do whatever it takes to protect the interest of our people and our state.”
Though the NPP is an ally of the BJP at the Centre and other parts of the North East region, Sangma reiterated, “We were very clear when it comes to the interest of our people that is what matters to us the most.”
The BJP has declared in its manifesto that the party is committed to implement the citizenship amendment bill if it is voted back to power after the Lok Sabha elections.
