Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday said his government does not engage in “selective development”.
Inaugurating the Nongkseh Indoor Stadium at Nongkseh under Mylliem constituency, Sangma said, “This government is committed to the people of our state. We do not do selective development. For us, every citizen of the state is important and for us every constituency is important, it is not about ruling or opposition constituency.”
Mylliem constituency is being represented by opposition Congress MLA and leader of opposition Ronnie V Lyngdoh.
“Once we are elected as a government, there is no more NPP or Congress. I am not the chief minister of NPP, I am chief minister of Meghalaya. So every citizen of our state is important. It is our duty to serve each and every citizen of our state and that is the mind and spirit we are working with,” Sangma told the gathering.
He also recalled two and a half years ago, he along with former Mylliem legislator Hamletson Dohling had laid the foundation stone for the indoor stadium and said, “Today to finally inaugurate it I am sure it is a happy moment for all of you.”
The CM said that it is not just about inaugurating an indoor stadium but it is about giving all the support and guidance to the youth, so that they are not misguided and not go into the wrong direction in life.
“Why I am telling you this is because this building is meaningless if the activities and the youths don’t use it for the right thing.I would like to see that we have skill program, I would like to see that we have sport program, music program taking place out here, I would like to see job creation program.
We have programs like CM Elevate to support entrepreneurs to start their own business, I would like to see this place become active and guide the youths on how to get a different scheme from the government,” he said.
Stating that the youth are greatest assets and greatest resources of Meghalaya, Sangma said, “We as a state and as a country will succeed in the future is because of the investment we make in our youngsters and please remember that whatever we do today is not a building inauguration, we are not building indoor stadium, we are investing in the future of our children. This is the mindset in which we all need to work and I do hope that we will continue to do that and I can assure you of full support from my side in order to achieve those goals.”
Further, the chief minister also announced sanctioning of Rs 2.1 crore for the football stadium at Nongkseh.
He also assured that the government will look into the proposal for upgrading the health centre in the area.
“We are looking into this entire aspect on how we can improve the overall health services by ensuring that we are able to improve the overall health facilities, so definitely the health minister will look into this aspect, examine and ensure that all the support is given in terms of the CHC up-gradation that we are looking at,” he said. The CM also informed the water supply scheme sanctioned at Rs 15 crore will be completed very soon.
