Meghalaya CM inaugurates building of DMHO at Nongpoh

 Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday inaugurated the newly constructed building of the District Medical & Health Officer, Nongpoh in Ri-Bhoi District in presence of Health Minister Dr. Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh and MLA and Chairman Meghalaya Health System Strengthening Project, Mayralborn Syiem.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister remarked that the Government has made a concerted effort to improve the overall Healthcare system in terms of  infrastructure, equipment and human resources.

“There has been considerable improvement but there is so much more to be done especially at the grassroot level,” he said.

Informing that a dedicated budget has been earmarked for improving the overall health sector, including creation of a separate recruitment board, he said, “The separate recruitment board has helped the department to improve  recruitment at the Doctor’s and Nurses level”.

The new building has been constructed at a cost of ₹18.4 Cr. The new building will be used for administrative offices, including the setting up of the trauma centre.

He further said that the government has accorded financial sanction for renovation of PHCs and CHCs across the state.

He said that 148 healthcare centres are being renovated, including upgradation of civil hospitals at the district level.

The three district hospitals that are currently being upgraded are Tura, Shillong and Jowai Civil Hospital.
