The budget session of the eleventh Meghalaya Legislative Assembly will be held from February 16 to February 27.
The calendar for the upcoming session was approved during a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) chaired by the Assembly Speaker Thomas A Sangma here on Thursday.
The meeting was attended by deputy chief minister in-charge parliamentary affairs Prestone Tynsong, leader of opposition Ronnie V Lyngdoh, former minister Lahkmen Rymbui.
“The full budget session will start from February 16 and will end on February 27,” Sangma told reporters.
He said there will be eight working days of which government business has been allotted for five days while for private members’ business for three days.
The House will witness the address by the Governor on the first day and presentation of budget estimates 2024-2025 by the Chief Minister will be on February 21.
Asked, the Speaker said after so many years, the Assembly will have eight working days. According to him, the calling for an early budget session is due to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
“We are also apprehensive that the general elections may be announced so we have to finish the full budget,” he added.
