Shillong, August 22: The Meghalaya Boxing Association (MBA) is all set to participate in the 28th Sub-Junior Men’s National Boxing Championship scheduled to be held from the 26th till 31st August at Akola in Maharashtra.
MBA secretary Larry Kharpran, “We have completed the selection of our young boxers from across the state since July 7th, including individual boxers and now we are ready for the fight.”
The boxers, between 12 to 16 years, are from West Khasi Hills Boxing Association (WKBA), Ri-Bhoi Boxing Association (RBBA), Lamlynti Amateur Boxing Club (LLABC), Upper Shillong Boxing Association (USBA), Mawngap Boxing Association (MBA), and individual boxers from Boys Sports Coy.
Training for the championship spar was divided into two phase; the first being held from July 9th till 28th, while the second phase started on 1st August and concluded yesterday in a small function at the Meghalaya Boxing Indoor Training Center where thirteen young boxers’ name was announced for the championship.
Three officials will accompany the three 12 year-olds under 36 Kgs Wilfred K Mawlong, (WKBA); Daniel Rani, (LLABC); Wanbokstar Wanniang, (WKBA); 13 year-old Bhakupar Nongkhar, 38 kg, (WKBA); Sebestian Nongrum, 44 kg, (RBBA); Rocky Snaitang, 42 kg, (LLABC); 14 year-old Kushal Gurung, 45 kg, (BSC); Kyntiew Shaphrang Shynret, 46kg, (USBA); 15 year-old Gir Bahadur Pun, 52 kg, (BSC); and 16 year-old Egnatius Nongrum, 56 kg, (RBBA); Sajan Chettri, 60 kg, (BSC); Maitshaphrang Shaphrang Shynret, 48 kg, (USBA).- By Our Reporter
