SHILLONG, JAN 3: Meghalaya GAD minister HDR Lyngdoh said that the Meghalaya house at Kolkata will be operational before 2014 Lok Sabha elections. “We will ensure that the Meghalaya House in Kolkata is commissioned and made operational by the month of March before the notification for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections is issued,” Lyngdoh told reporters on Friday.
Stating that the assurance is positive from his side, Lyngdoh informed that he would also conduct an inspection of the Meghalaya House in the coming days to make the necessary preparations with regards to commissioning of the house.
The project has seen several delays and modifications in the building structure which escalated the construction of the project from Rs 22 crore to Rs 49.2 crore.
According to Lyngdoh, although the state government has already taken over the Meghalaya House from the agency implementing the construction work but the delay is due to the construction of the sewerage system which is yet to be completed.
“The government has taken over the possession of the building but it can be inaugurated only after the work for sewerage connection is over,” Lyngdoh said. The sewage work has been entrusted to the Kolkata Municipal Corporation.- By Our Reporter
