SHILLONG, MAR 25: BJP leader and MDC from Tura Bernard N Marak on Friday alleged that contractors, who are implementing the Tura water supply scheme amounting to around Rs 35 crore and Jal Jeevan Mission have duped the public and the government with non-functional water connection.
“In Tura, water scarcity is at its peak. Most of the works were not fully done and completion reports were submitted without verifying and the bills drawn through political pressure yet the water problem continues in every corner of the town. Its best to say, the situation is chaotic,” Marak said in a statement.
He alleged that the contractors hardly utilized 25% of the actual cost and got away with substandard work which now leaves the public in a difficult situation.
Stating that this will not be tolerated, Marak has also threatened to file FIR and cases against contractors and officials if the water crisis is not addressed within a week’s time.
“If the authorities do not solve the water crisis in Tura within a week, FIR and cases against contractors as well as the officials involved will be filed lawfully,” he said while adding that the Centre government sanctioned money to provide water to every household but failure to provide this facility is no less than a crime and will be taken up at the highest level.
