SHILLONG, DEC 18: The United Democratic Party (UDP) released the first list containing six names of the party candidates for the upcoming Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) elections slated early 2014.
UDP State Election Committee (SEC) secretary Allan Franklin Dkhar informed that the candidates are – Martamlin Pyrbot from Jaiaw constituency, Hamletson Dohling from Mylliem constituency, Gervasis Kharmujai from Mawlai constituency, Anthony Nongbri Malki-Laitumkhrah constituency, Wanpli Kharmawphlang from Nongthymmai constituency and Edarstar Nongbri from Nongkrem constituency.
Dkhar also said remaining names for the KHADC, JHADC and GHADC MDCs election will be release in January 2014. He said the SEC has not been able to finalise the names of candidates in all the three district councils as the party was uncertain if the polls will be held as per the newly delimited constituencies or there will be status quo.
Dkhar also said that the UDP will not be able to put its candidates in all the constituencies in Khasi, Jaintia and Garo hills as all the non-Congress political parties have decided to work together.
With regard to the Lok Sabha election Dkhar informed that the UDP will soon meet the leaders of the Peoples Candidate Forum (PCF) to urge them not to put up Rev PBM Basaiawmoit as their candidate and support its candidate Paul Lyngdoh so that the anti-Congress votes do not split.- By Our Reporter
