SHILLONG, DEC 26: An MDC of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) has agreed to immediately release the schemes relating to CGI sheets and improvement of paddy field/household to all the deserving beneficiaries after an RTI revealed his involvement in misappropriation of public money.
The RTI filed by the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) has pointed out that a total of 72 beneficiaries from Barato-Mukroh constituency have been deprived of the schemes sanctioned from 2011 to 2014 which is around Rs 6 lakh.
“Rio Sten, who is the sitting MDC of Barato-Mukroh constituency, has so far released the schemes to 15 (of 72) beneficiaries after he has given a written assurance to the organization on December 18,” HNYF-Nartiang Circle president HW Sutong told reporters on Wednesday.
He said the written assurance came after the members of the organization threatens to file a complaint against the sitting member of the district council for allegedly forging the signatures of the beneficiaries.
“He (Sten) had also confessed before the police at Nartiang police station that he had forged the signatures,” Sutong said.
Asked, the HNYF leader said that the organization decided to allow the MDC to release the schemes after he agreed to do the needful within seven days.
He said the beneficiaries are urged to come forward and meet the leaders of the HNYF Nartiang Circle to check the list and accordingly ask the MDC to release their share.
On the other hand, HNYF Barato Unit vice president Dominic Dhar said that the step taken by the organization will also be a warning against other members of the district council that they should fully implement the schemes meant for the interest and welfare of the people of the region.
