SHILLONG, JAN 9: The state government will set up an inquiry into the alleged illegal collection from coal trucks at the gates of the Directorate of Mineral Resources (DMR) and the Transport department in Dainadubi under North Garo Hills district.
People’s Democratic Front (PDF) leader and cabinet minister Hamletson Dohling on Thursday expressed concern over the incident and said, “We are not happy on this matter. Who are these people indulging in illegal collection?”
Dohling said he has seen reports about people carrying out this illegal act by collecting money from the trucks.
“We have taken up the matter with the chief minister Conrad K Sangma and he has informed us that an inquiry into the incident will be set up,” the minister informed.
Stating that such incident should not be allowed to happen in the future as it will affect the state, Dohling said, “We have reiterated that once we don’t like we don’t like as we do not indulge in such activities.”
Asked, the PDF leader said let the chief minister and home minister order for the inquiry to know who are those involved in such illegal activities.
Earlier, the youth wing of the United Democratic Party (UDP) had demanded for a judicial inquiry into the incident.
The demand also came in the wake of a furore over civilians, allegedly at the behest of a senior NPP minister, collecting money from coal trucks that were en route to Assam after sidelining the DMR and transport departments.
The incident took place on the night of December 30, last year with fingers being pointed at various persons aligned with the NPP, being responsible for the illegal act.
