MDA more divided than Cong

“They (cabinet ministers) cannot see eye to eye among themselves because (they are) fighting for bone…,” Pala told reporters on Wednesday.

“There is no unity amongst them…NPP is on one side, UDP is on one side, PDF is on one side. In Garo Hills, the NPP has got their own candidate and UDP their own candidate inspite of being together in the government,” he said.

According to him, the MDA partners should have at least united during the bye election.

“Now people realized that there is no question for them to unite. So they are more divided than the Congress,” he stated.

Pala was reacting to a recent statement made by the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma that the Congress is a driverless party. He claimed that the Congress is stronger than ever.

“Conrad whenever he has no agendas he only pointed to the Congress. There is no such division we are totally strong. I think this time we are more stronger and united than ever before,” Pala said.

Stating that there are no differences between him and the Congress legislature party leader Mukul Sangma, the MPCC chief said, “Only at the beginning I think Dr Mukul might have already given a statement in the press that AICC might have misunderstanding with him, nothing to do with me. He went to Delhi and he got it clarified and as of now we are working together. That is why I said if you see on the ground, Congress workers are more than the ruling workers as there is no unity among them.”

“There is no question of so many groups (within the party), Congress is one. I may have my own idea, they may have their own idea, own views, but what binds us together is the party,” he added.

Bypolls:

The MPCC chief has expressed confidence that the party will win from all the three Assembly seats – Mawryngkneng, Mawphlang and Rajabala, which are going for bypolls on October 30.

“We are working overtime and if you look on the ground I think Congress works more than any other party, we are struggling alot so I am very confident that we will win from all the three seats,” he told reporters.

When asked, Pala said, “There is no such things that people are running away from the party. I think at the beginning there must be a misunderstanding or maybe a perception but today Mukul is working very hard and I am working very hard here also coordinating.”

He also claimed that the people are with the Congress which is putting up good candidates from all the three seats.

He however said, unfortunately from Mawryngkneng some of the Congress leaders has decided to contest against party candidate (Highlander Kharmalki) “but by this time the people realized that we don’t mind as Congress is Congress”

Pala further informed that Charles Pyngrope, senior party leader and father of the former sitting MLA (L) David A Nongrum, is also working overtime and very hard campaigning for the party candidate to ensure the party retains the Mawryngkneng seat.

East Shillong MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh and Mawkhar-Pynthorumkhrah MDC PN Syiem are coordinating with all the leaders for the campaigning in Mawryngkneng constituency while Rymbrai-Jyrngam MLA Kimfa S Marbaniang and Mawhati MDC Charles Marngar are looking after Mawphlang constituency. In Garo Hills, Marthon Sangma and Deborah Marak are coordinating with the leaders for the election campaigning for Rajabala candidate Hashina Yasmin.

According to him, the Congress is avoiding holding big rallies due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
