MCC comes into force in South West Garo Hills 

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has declared the General Elections for Lok Sabha 2024, with polling scheduled for April 19, 2024.

Upon this announcement, the model code of conduct has been enforced immediately in the district of South West Garo Hills. This includes regulations on wall writing, pasting of posters/papers, defacement, and displaying of various materials in government premises.

Furthermore, private premises may display temporary advertisement materials with voluntary permission from occupants, ensuring they do not cause inconvenience.

The ECI emphasizes the prohibition of inflammatory content or solicitations for votes through banners and flags, under Section 171 H of the IPC.

In adherence to the Motor Vehicles Act and related regulations, private vehicles may display flags and stickers with caution not to distract road users.

Commercial vehicles require a valid permit for election campaigns, with no display allowed without proper authorization.

Additionally, to maintain public safety and ensure a peaceful election atmosphere, Smt. Hema Nayak, IAS, District Magistrate, South West Garo Hills, Ampati, has invoked Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure 1973. This prohibits the carrying of arms and explosives by individuals, except for law enforcement personnel.

The cooperation of citizens with government authorities, including flying squads and SSTs, is earnestly requested to facilitate smooth election procedures. Citizens are urged to cooperate with government authorities and designated personnel during this period. The order is effective immediately and will remain so until further notice.
