SHILLONG, MAR 22: Meghalaya deputy chief minister ( in-charge education) RC Laloo on Tuesday defended the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) saying the board is performing “equally good” like any other educational boards.
“I don’t agree that MBOSE is inferior and others are superior…we are also equally good,” Laloo told the assembly on Monday.
He was replying to a supplementary raised by Independent legislator Saleng A Sangma who questioned the reason for better performance of other boards compared to MBOSE and stress the need to improve the quality of education.
Laloo while stating that it would not be proper for him to comment on the quality of different board said, “The results indicate that we are fairly well in all programme and disciplines with so many doctors and engineers that are all best.”
Disagreeing with Sangma, he further stated that the curriculum of the MBOSE is prepared as per the National Curriculum Frame Work (NCFW), which is also the same for CSBSE and CISCE.
The deputy chief minister however agreed on the need of improving the quality of education by ensuring teachers are trained and asserted that the students will also have to work hard.
Pointing on the lack of quality in the school administration especially in the rural areas of Garo hills region, Sangma informed of his encounter with a math’s teacher in one of the schools who replied to his query by saying he doesn’t know how to speak English.
Sangma, therefore, urged the state government to direct the education officials to have regular inspections to such schools, to which the minister replied that the matter needs the cooperation of all concerned.- By Our Reporter
