SHILLONG, MAR 19 : Peeved over Meghalaya urban affairs minister Ampareen Lyngdoh statement in the assembly that the two areas in Mawlai have been notified as slum areas , agitated Mawlai residents on Wednesday morning gathered in the Mawlai petrol pump and stopped the Meghalaya Urban Development Authority (MUDA) trucking from dumping garbage in the dumping ground in the area.
Lyngdoh statement in the assembly during the question hours last Friday had created quite a ruckus as Hills State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) legislator Ardent Basaiawmoit said, “It is difficult to digest that Mawlai is considered a slum.”
Basaiawmoit wanted to know from the minister on what basis Mawlai has been notified as a slum.
Lyngdoh, however, had said later that there was a misunderstanding as she had not attributed the whole of Mawlai as slum but only two localities in Mawlai (Mawlai Nongmali and Mawlai Mawroh) which were notified as slums.
But the Mawlai residents were not satisfied with the minister’s clarification as the angry residents on Wednesday decided to stop the MUDA trucks carrying wastes from dumping it in the Marten dumping ground located in their locality.
East Khasi hills SP M Kharkhrang informed this website that the MUDA officials are trying to resolve the issue with the Shnong (village) so that the trucks are allowed to dump the garbage in the Marten dumping ground.-By Our Reporter

Well done,Mawlai residents! The Minister incharge MUDA must apologise for her statement as early as possible or else she would be relieved of the existing portfolio as was done in the education department.
Cheers to all resident as Mawlai will always be the heart of all the Khasis
