SHILLONG, OCT 28: Meghalaya social welfare minister Deborah Marak has appealed to the union government to increase fund allocation to Meghalaya for implementing of different schemes for the welfare of the tribal of the state. She made an appeal during the meeting of the tribal affairs ministers of all the states organized by the union ministry of tribal affairs on Tuesday in Delhi.
The union ministry of tribal affairs organized the meeting in Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi to discuss comprehensive and encompassing strategy for welfare of tribal in the country. The meeting was presided over by the union tribal affairs minister Jual Oram who also launched the Van Vandhu Kalyan Yojana Scheme.
Besides minister Deborah Marak, Meghalaya state was represented by social welfare commissioner & secretary T Dkhar and director HM Shangpliang.
During her speech in the meeting, Marak appealed the union government to increase fund allocation to Meghalaya for implementing schemes of Vocational Training for local tribal, to support voluntary organisations working in the field of education, health, legal redressal services for the welfare of scheduled tribes in Meghalaya.
Marak also stressed the need to sanction more funds for pre-matric and post-matric scholarships for the tribal students of Meghalaya. She further requested the ministry to increase the fund under the National Handicapped Finance Development Corporation to enable more handicapped citizens of the state to avail self employment projects through the Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank in Meghalaya.- By Our Reporter
