SHILLONG, JUN 6: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today claimed that MLAs including ministers from the ruling Congress and other political parties are likely to join the party in July or August.
“They (sitting legislators) are waiting for the time and I hope by July or August they will definitely switch and join the party,” BJP state president Shibun Lyngdoh told reporters here on Tuesday.
He said that the party is receiving feelers from many sitting legislators but however he is not ready to name them till the time that they openly join the party.
On the other hand, Lyngdoh denied the allegation of the chief minister that the BJP is having a “backdoor alliance” with the two regional parties – United Democratic Party (UDP) and Hill State People Democratic Party (HSPDP).
“There is no front or back door alliance as the BJP is going alone to fight the upcoming 2018 state elections,” he said.
According to him, the party is busy strengthening its various mandal committees for preparation to contest from all the 60 assembly seats.
Earlier, the BJP national spokesman Nalin Kohli’s challenge for a debate on the development in Meghalaya was turned down by the chief minister Mukul Sangma as Kohli according to him is only an ‘audience’, who should be watching him as player playing the game in the state.
Asked, the state president however said that though Sangma is a player in politics but he would prefer to rate him at zero in term of his performance as there is total lack of development in the state especially when there is no govt colleges.
