SHILLONG, FEB 2: East Garo Hills District received the national award in the implementation of MGNREGS. The award is given for high level of employment generation in challenging circumstances.
The award was given the East Garo hills deputy commissioner Vijay Kumar Mantri as the distict program coordinator on Saturday in Vignan Bhavan, New Delhi during 8th Mahatma Gandhi NREGA Diwas.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was the chief guest, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi was the guest of honour.
East Garo hills district achieved 90.39 average person days (Out of 100 person days) and provided a total of about 45 lakh man days work. These figures are one of best figures in the country. 17,770 households of the district received 100 days employment.
Songsak C&RD Block, which is insurgency affected block achieved the highest man-days, among all the blocks, of 94.59. Samanda block, which is highly infected with insurgency has also achieved more than 90 man-days.- By Our Reporter
