‘Health centres functional’

SHILLONG, APR 14: The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) on Tuesday demanded that the Meghalaya government ‘operationalise’ the two health sub-centres whose constructions were completed since nine years ago.

“We demand the government to immediately operationalise these sub-centres in the health interest of  people residing in the two remote villages under Mawrynkneng block,” FKJGP-Mawryngkneng circle vice president Brister Mawthoh told reporters after a meeting Meghalaya health minister AL Hek on Tuesday.

According to Mawthoh, the failure of the government to activate the two sub-centres constructed at Kut and Nonghali villages have affected the villagers residing in the area especially during health emergencies.

“These sub centres were also turn into cow sheds instead of delivering health care services to the people,” Mawthoh informed the minister. He said only after the FKJGP decided to intervened, the health department agreed to sanction for repairing of the buildings of the two sub centres.

“The repairing work has already completed,” Mawthoh said while demanding immediate appointment of staffs in the two sub centres.

Hek reportedly assured the FKJGP delegation that the department would soon publish an advertisement for recruitment of the required staffs.- By Our Reporter
