SHILLONG, MAY 12: The Opposition All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) state vice president and Umroi legislator George B Lyngdoh on Thursday outrightly rejected the allegation that he will quit the party and said that he has no intention to join other political parties.
“I…reiterate that all media reports claiming that I will be quitting the AITC to join other political parties are untrue, baseless, and misleading. I would remain with the AITC, and I have no intention whatsoever to join any other political party,” Lyngdoh said in a statement.
He also referred to the media reports as not only amusing but misleading too. Reports have alleged that Lyngdoh will be one among the four AITC legislators, who are planning to shift from the AITC to other political parties ahead of the 2023 elections.
The Opposition Chief Whip however admitted that certain political parties have approached him along with what he called “mouth-watering offers” and “promises”.
“This has been going on for the past few months. The offers given to me only displayed the depraved desperation of certain political parties. It also showed the minuscule regard they have for their own local leaders and supporters, and their readiness to stoop to any level in their attempt to poach sitting legislators,” he said while terming that “Their inducement is an attempt to silence the voices of vocal leaders and make people forget the travails of illegalities and mal-governance that the state and its inhabitants have been going through under the current ruling dispensation.”
“I take politics as a sacred calling to fulfill the aspirations of our people, and be their face and voice.
We are not hankering for any seat in the Secretariat or tempting avenues. We are here to raise our voice against the government and its misdeeds,” he maintained.
Stating that governance in Meghalaya is crumbling and mis-governance is being witnessed nearly on a daily basis, the AITC leader said, “The present ruling dispensation, which includes all political parties which are part and parcel of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance, is solely responsible for the sorry state of affairs, and for tarnishing the good name that Meghalaya has been cultivating for the past many years.”
“As the sole opposition in Meghalaya, the AITC will continue to be vociferous in speaking out against the misdemeanours of the government, and be the voice of the voiceless,” he concluded.
