SHILLONG, DEC 1: Meghalaya Information & Public Relations minister M Ampareen Lyngdoh on Thursday lauded the vibrant media
of the state for achieving many important milestones in the last few decades.
Speaking during the celebration of the 50th National Press Day at a function held at Shillong Club and a panel discussion on “Crimes against Women and Children: Challenges Faced” Lyngdoh dwelling in the topic expressed concern over the rise of crimes against women and children. She felt media has an important role to play in building a better society by way of proper and factual dissemination of news and information.
The Shillong Press Club in collaboration with the Directorate of Information and Public Relations organised the function
Beside Lyngdoh who grace the occasion as chief guest the programme was also attended by MN Nampui, Director, Information & Public Relations as guest of honour, Manas Ranjan Mahapatra, Director, Information and Public Relations, NEC and members of the print and electronic media among others.
The panel discussion was moderated by Bidhayak Das, senior independent journalist and the resource persons included Rubina Subba, Standing Counsel, Meghalaya State Commission for Women, M Kharkrang, East Khasi hills SP and Meena Kharkongor, chairperson, State Commission for Protection of Child Rights
Lyngdoh further added that sensitive reporting of news pertaining to crimes against women and children is needed taking into account the welfare and betterment of the society and the State as a whole.
During the programme, Lyngdoh also felicitated the winners of the Carrom board competition held as part of the National Press Day celebration.
