SHILLONG, JUNE 20: National People’s Party leader Ampareen Lyngdoh on Tuesday termed the political development leading to the formation of the NPP-Congress executive committee in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) as a good situation.
Speaking to reporters, Lyngdoh said, “We are happy that that has happened because we have very deep relations with friends from the Congress and for me personally, this is a good situation to be in and it is a position, which consolidate in the interest of the service to the people. Now I am with the NPP and anybody working with the NPP at this point of time is a very good proposal and we welcome all who are now working together with the NPP in the KHADC and we look forward to a very fruitful political relationship in the KHADC.”
The NPP has toppled the UDP-led EC with the support of the Congress through a no-confidence motion moved during the first day of the Council’s summer session.
Lyngdoh said, “To be very frank and honest with you, this is writing on the wall that I had seen about a year back. This is something which I had perceived would happen and over and above that, I am with the NPP, I am not going to rewind back, I am not going to compare my situation with other peoples’ situation because at the end of the day politicians have to survive.”
Stating that she is not aware about the reason for the change in the KHADC, Lyngdoh said, “What exactly went on in the KHADC that herald this change is something which I am not privy to and my opinion is very simple. My opinion on this entire allegation of let down and of not conforming to coalition partnerships in government with the UDP is something which is best replied to by the MDCs, who probably felt this experience on their own. I don’t understand why there should be an allegation of that nature as well. I mean it is a fact that political pressures are conditioned by certain factors and if the MDCs felt like they no longer had confidence in their leader and the EC then I guess they had the right to rise and protest about it and to seek for change and seek the number for that change. As in politics it is not about how one feels, it is about the developments that are related to the politics.”
When asked, Lyngdoh said that the NPP is a party which already shown its willingness to work with the Congress.
“When they called us at that point of time when we were 5 Congress MLAs it shows that they were already willing to work with us, partner with us. So if the MPCC takes its cue from that then I think it is going to be in the interest again of the general public at large because fighting battles on your own is always difficult especially when your position is compromised,” she stated.
Lyngdoh said she is going to advise her party to take on board all likeminded parties to work together on serious issues confronting the state as it would benefit if all come together to strengthen the MDA-2 government.
