SHILLONG, DEC 15: Local tribals will now be allowed to develop power projects in the state with the cabinet on Saturday approving the amended power policy.
Chief minister Mukul Sangma the new policy envisages allowing an indigenous tribal permanent resident of the state a stake in power projects.“Our intention is to give preference to interested local tribal for development of power projects in the state,” Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma told reporters here after the meeting…The share holding of such tribal will be at least 51 per cent for 10 years and 26 per cent in perpetuity,” he said.
In an event of where there more than one party applying for the same project, the chief minister said, a local tribal who has the required equity will get preference. “We want to encourage our own people as far as possible in such projects,” he asserted.
The cabinet also approved the Meghalaya Subordinate and Statistic Service Rule. “The service rule will ensure proper promotion avenues to the employees,” he said Sangma. (By Our Reporter)
