SHILLONG, FEB 5: The Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) today said it would try to field candidates from 8-10 of the 60 seats in the upcoming Assembly polls to be held onFebruary 27.
Addressing the media here on Monday, LJP national youth president Sanjay Saraf informed that the party is still discussing to field candidates from constituencies like Jirang, Nongthymmai, Pynthorumkhrah and South Shillong.
It may be mentioned the party has so far been able to field only one candidate from Mawlai constituency Donlang Nongbri after four of its candidates quit the party recently.
Asked, the party state president Jamil Ahmed revealed that the LJP had approached former minister and former legislator of South Shillong Manas Chaudhuri to consider contesting the upcoming polls from the party. Manas was recently denied ticket by the BJP.
“However nothing has been decided as of now on the matter,” he said.
On the other hand, the national youth president also informed that the party will also release its manifesto on February 7.
Stating if the party wins in the election various issues will be taken up in the Assembly, he said that the families belonging to the BPL category are not getting the proper facilities provided by the central government.
“Many BPL families are not getting the facilities however those who are not in this category are getting the facility and this is a major fraud in the state,” he said.
He informed that the party will also take up the issue of interstate boundary dispute with Assam.
