SHILLONG, FEB 5: Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama said the present political situation in Tibet is not conducive for his return as the Chinese authority would probably put him in prison.
Interacting with journalists on Wednesday at Pinewood hotel, the Dalai Lama said, “If I return (to Tibet), it will be useful to me in the sense I may get to relax more in prison, with no work. In fact I will lose my own freedom, unlike here where I get to talk and preach to people.”
Saying that nobody knows when time will permit him to return to Tibet , the Tibetan spiritual leader however hope that things will change to enable him to return to his home. He said ninety-nine per cent of Tibetans in Tibet are waiting for his return.
The Dalai Lama said, “Every time I meet them (Tibetans), they would request me to come back to Tibet.” He said he will go to Tibet one day. He lamented that he wants to go back to Tibet but Chinese government is not allowing with the Chinese hardliners are accusing him of being a splinter.
The Dalai Lama asserted, “The whole world knows that we (Tibet government in-exile) is not seeking separation from China.” He said some years ago, they (Chinese officials) had even termed him as a demon. He said, “Media had once asked me how I felt about it (being called a demon), I said yes, I am a demon with horns.”
The Dalai Lama said as the Chinese hardliners described him as a demon so logically demon’s place will be in prison.”
Referring to the middle-way approach, the Dalai Lama said that Tibet has a past history as it was an independent empire, which is the past, but now, he continued, Tibet has to look at the present. He, therefore, said that the mutual benefits remain if Tibet is within China provided the Chinese authority implements all the rights mention in their constitution. He added solution can take place if this is adhered to by China.
The Dalai Lama also informed that the Tibet government in-exile has struck down its earlier demand for independent Tibet and now are demanding for Genuine Autonomy to Tibet, which will remain as part of China.
The Dalai Lama said that he and the Tibetan government in exile believes that the best way to solve the Tibet issue with China is through dialogue and non-violence. He informed that the government in exile has decided that let Tibet remain within China like Kashmir remains with Indian republic and other parts in Pakistan.- By Our Reporter
