TURA,MAY6: While the NPP candidate Conrad K Sangma has got the support of the BJP for the upcoming May 16 Tura Lok Sabha bye-polls, Congress candidate Dikkanchi D. Shira on Friday got the support of opposition member in Meghalaya legislative assembly and South Tura MLA John Leslee K. Sangma.
John Leslee pledged his support to Dikkanchi D. Shira and accordingly informed the media via a statement
In 2014 Lok Sabha election, Leslee had supported former Tura MP late Purno Agitok Sangma.
“I am strongly supporting the Congress candidate though I am in the opposition in the assembly because of the step taken by Mukul Sangma government to amend the excise rules. This is very important to me as I have been fighting the mushrooming wine stores in Tura over the last 15 years. The act has led to ensuring regulation of wine stores and people can claim their place back”, Leslee said in a release.
He also urged the church and civil bodies to ensure that violations are not allowed.
In April last, Meghalaya government adhered to the Supreme Court ruling on closure of liquor shops, which are located within 200 meters from religious institutions and schools and 50 meters from national highway.
He praised Mukul government for increasing the allocation for MLA scheme funds to Rs. 2 crore annually. He had word of praise for the completion of the much delayed connectivity to Shillong from Tura via Nongstoin.-From Our Correspondent
