Law will take its own course: CM

SHILLONG, NOV 3: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday said the law will take its own course of action following the arrest of the Commandant of SF-10 battalion GK Iangrai for his alleged involvement in the misappropriation of funds for construction of NERS PSAP facility at Sadar PS Complex.

 

“(Further) inquiry will take place and the law will take its own course…” Sangma told reporters.

 

He said there were some allegations of mis-utilization of funds and based on an FIR lodged by the police department permission sought was granted by the government to pursue that.

 

Iangrai, who was former Assistant Inspector General of Police (Administration), was arrested from his residence following a raid on Wednesday.

 

Inspector General of Police (IGP) CID, Meghalaya O Pasi said a case was registered on October 28 based on the allegation of Misappropriation of funds by G.K. Iangrai, MPS in the construction of NERS PSAP facility at Sadar PS Complex.

 

“During the investigation of the same, on 02/11/2022, simultaneous searches were conducted on the strength of the warrant issued by the Hon’ble Court of the Special Judge (PC Act), Shillong at the residential premises of Shri G K Iangrai at Lumshyiap, Chanmari, Upper Golf Links, Shillong 1, Official Quarter at Golf Links, and Farm House at Rtiang, Umsning, Ribhoi,” Pasi said.

 

“During the searches, many incriminating documents, cash and material objects were seized and Shri G K Iangrai was arrested. Further investigation of the case continues,” he added.
