SHILLONG, FEB 23: Krinilla R Marak, the wife of late Jonathone N Sangma, who was killed in a recent IED blast, has decided to contest in his place as the candidate of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) from Williamnagar constituency.
The decision was taken at a meeting held at Williamnagar, the district headquarter of East Garo Hills on Friday following the growing requests from the people of the constituency, who attended in large number.
The meeting was held in the presence of NCP state general secretary SP Thapa and president of the Nationalist Youth Congress (NYC) Torang R Marak.
Jonathone N Sangma, who was the NCP candidate, was killed in an IED blast along three others in a remote village of the district, which has prompted the party to demand for immediate institution of investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
“Marak has decided to contest the election in place of her late husband after the party and people of the constituency requested her,” NCP state working president Vijay Raj said here.
Earlier while addressing at the meeting, NCP state general secretary SP Thapa called upon the Garo National Liberation Army (NGLA) to come up with a statement as to whether they had committed crime or not.
“Let the fact be opened so that the family members won’t be in dark,” he said.
The NYC president Torang thanked the people of Williamnagar for their support and choosing a candidate for NCP.
Others who spoke were Dap Kupar Nongrum and several local speakers apart from Krinilla who thanked the people for the support they had given to Late Jonathone and for their continued support to her now.
