SHILLONG, OCT 13: Peitngor Cable News (PCN) video journalist Kenny Warjri, who died in a recent tragic accident, was laid to rest in a Presbytarian cemetery at Lawmali on Tuesday.
Rich tribute and homage was paid to the young journalist who died in the line of duty.
Teams of the PCN and Shillong Press Club (SPC) members escorted the mortal remains of Warjri from his residence at Umsohsun to the cemetery of Presbytarian at Lawmali, where the last ritual was conducted.
Family members, journalists from different parts of Meghalaya, besides friends and well-wishers also paid their last tribute and homage with flowers and wreaths.
Home minister Roshan Warjri, UDP legislator and working president Paul Lyngdoh, KHADC EM trade James Sylliang, former KHADC CEM Adelbert Nongrum, leaders of different ngos were also present during the funeral.
Warjri’s sudden and untimely demise has caused a perennial vacuum in the relatively small media family of Shillong in particular and Meghalaya as a whole, the press fraternity felt.
Warjri and Walton Jyrwa of UB Photos were on their way to Garo hills to cover the elections to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) when they met with an accident at Paikan in Goalpara district of Assam on Sunday.
Warjri succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital while Walton Jrywa of UB Photos was critically injured in the accident and is reportedly recovering as he has fractured ribs.
The SUV they were travelling in hit a tree around 2.15 pm at a place around a kilometer into the Paikan-Tura road on NH-51.- By Our Reporter
