SHILLONG, APR 03: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has initiated inquiry to verify whether land that fall under its jurisdiction are being registered with the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) by the Nongbri clan.
KHADC Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pynshngaiñ N Syiem told reporters that as the information received by the council was verbal, he has ordered an inquiry to confirm the truth. He, however said, “It is wrong for land owners residing within the perimeters of Khasi Hills to register their land in Garo Hills.”
It is learnt that the Nongbri clan has registered their land on July 18, 2012 and was signed by the superintendent of Land Revenue, GHADC as per section 76 Act 1 of 1872.
A sketched map of the land indicates the acknowledgement of the Revenue Branch GHADC, Tura and compared by the O/A, GDC Tura.
As the action of the Nongbri clan has raised eye brows, Syiem has written a letter to the Syiem of Nongstoiñ in South West Khasi Hills District seeking clarification if case is true.
Syiem said, “It came to my knowledge that land in Amarsang, Umtongkut and nearby villages falling under the boundary of Hima Nongstoiñ, erstwhile West Khasi Hills and now falling under South West Khasi Hills Distric.”
