SHILLONG,OCT 17: Meghalaya deputy chief minister, holding education department, R C Laloo launched the Meghalaya online scholarship portal on Friday at state Secretariat in the presence of PK Srivastava, Principal Secretary, Education, DP Wahlang, Commissioner Secretary of Information Technology department CCM Mihsil, Secretary of Education Department, and T Dkhar, Senior Technical Director, National Informatics Centre (NIC).
While launching the website Laloo congratulated the department for its effort and launch of the scholarship portal which will immensely benefit the student community. He said that this initiative is aimed to facilitate faster and efficient disposal of scholarship applications and timely payment of the scholarship to the students directly in their banks accounts.
Laloo also called for valuable suggestions and improvement of the scholarship portal if necessary and hoped that it will serve the purpose meant for the students for easing out their problems faced during applying of scholarship.
Meghalaya education department principal secretary P K Srivastava informed that the portal will reduce the cost of processing and other data entry work and it will also help to execute their work in a transparent and efficient manner.
He said that while running the portal for the last 15 days on a trial basis saw 15,000 students registering their scholarship forms. “This will cover about 60,000 students and is expected to benefit especially the scheduled caste and schedule tribe students,” he added.
T Dkhar, Senior Technical Director, NIC highlighted the importance of the scholarship portal and the benefits it will provide to the student fraternity. He explained that the integrated e-Governance Portal will effectively streamline the management process related to application, receipt, processing, sanction and disbursal of various scholarship to students.
Dkhar further said that status of the application forms would be updated by SMS alerts and e-mails.
Meanwhile, the applicants can also log on to www.megscholarship.gov.in and register their names online by following the instructions given on the website or can visit the nearest CSC/NIC at Deputy Commissioner’s Office or Scholarship Cell DHTE Office.- By Our Reporter
