SHILLONG, APR 6: Sundaypromises to be a thrilling day for football lovers of Shillong city as their home team Shillong Lajong will take on ONGC at the JN sport complex. Both the teams and the crowd will also experience of seeing and playing under the floodlight for the first time in the Shillong ground.
At present Shillong Lajong is placed tenth at the I-League ladder and is expected to play at its best to better its ranking against the ONGC who is slightly above Lajong as it placed on the seventh place.
Sunday match is expected to see capacity crowd in this hill city as the people here are largely football crazy.
The match between Shillong Lajong and ONGC promises to be electrifying. The Shillong team is riding high on its recent success of holding one of India’ s top football team to a 2-2 draw, the ONGC also so far has been playing well.
Speaking about his team ONGC coach Santosh Kashyap said, “The credit goes to boys, despite uncertainty o of the club in the coming season , the players are doing well and Sunday evening match against Lajong is certainly going to be an exciting one as the Shillong boys have been doing well lately.”
Kashyap also said that all along he has been advocating that matches should be held under the flood lights and Shillong has been able to do exactly what he had wished all these days. He said, “ I hope all the clubs will also be able to hold matches under the floodlight for the game sake.”
Kashyap informed that nowhere in the world soccer is played during the midday. In India he said the temperature is so high during the day and it is almost impossible to play soccer in the midday.- By Suraj Joshi
Under the coaching of Kyshyep ONGC have played eleven of which they have won six drew four and lost one. On the other hand local coach Thongboi Singto feels confident of earning full points. “We have to capitalise in two matches and right now we are concentrating in Sunday’s match”.
Lajong has two home matches left and are looking to pocket six points and improve their position in the point’s tally of the league.
