SHILONG, JAN 20: Prabir Das scored the lone goal to give Pailan Arrows their much after win in the I-League match against Lajong FC on Sunday, putting the Shillong deeper into quagmire.
The developmental side of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) Arrows played impressive football to turn the tables on the rather listless Lajong and avenged their 1-3 loss against the same side in the first leg of the tournament. The first half saw both sides engaging themselves in the midfield with nothing notable happening by way of attacks. The first good chance came in the ninth minute when Suhil Kumar missed a close opportunity when he received a pass from the midfield, but his shot went wide.
Arrows were more expressive and were firmly entrenched in the opponent half most of the occasion in the first phase. The goal was a real moment of quality as striker Seminlen Doungel, who is on loan from East Bengal, weaved through the Lajong defence and essayed a fine pass to Prabir Das, who tapped home coolly.
Lajong coach Desmond Bulpin introduced the new Japanese striker Taisuke Matsugane in the second half but he could not bring much difference as Arrows held on to the lead and ensured the win in the end.
Pailan Arrows have collected 18 points from 16 games while Shillong Lajong remained on 15 points from 17 matches. (By Our Reporter)
