Shillong, Jan. 12: Shillong Lajong FC will have to make the most of home
advantage and pocket full points when they host fourth placed Dempo SC in an I-League match at the JN Sports Complex here on Sunday.
Languishing at the bottom end of the table just ahead of United Sikkim FC, the city outfit must conjure up a win to climb up the chart or they could be staring at relegation. They have 11 points in their kitty, just a point ahead of USFC which have 10 points.
Lajong, who have not had a good time in the league of late, needs to improve both at the back and front. Their defense in particularly has been very leaky, conceding bucketful of goals. Their strikers, too, need to start finding the netting at regular intervals. Some key players of Dempo are nursing injuries, and this is as good a time as any for Lajong to drive home the advantage. “There are many boys who are out of the game (because of injuries),” said the Goan team’s coach Armando Colaco.
Dempo, who are the defending champion, are now placed fourth with 27 points in their kitty. “We have lots of matches to go and there is lot of time. We are not out of the race for the championship,” said Colaco, adding that he team will look for a win, but will be happy with a draw as well.
The Dempo coach also promised that his wards will put up a good show and will not disappoint the SHillong soccer fans. (By Our Reporter)
