Shillong, Dec 29: Home ground and the huge fans presence in the Shillong’s JN stadium failed to galvanized the Shillong Lajong’s forwards as the visitor Pune Football Club beat the only north east I-League team with a 2-1victory Saturday’s match.
Even though the local lads dominated the 75 percent of the match over the Pune FC but the forward line once again prove to be too weak as they failed to convert chances that came its way to goals.
Lajong’s Sushil Kumar Singh was little unlucky in couple of occasion as inthe 20th minute of the game he had taken a good shot which was however saved by Pune custodian Abhra Mondal. The Pune custodian had a gala time under the wood work for which he was later awarded man of the match.
In 28th minutes Sushil and Friday paired up as they made their way to the rival’s goal mouth but Mondal once again foiled their attempt by denying them a goal. In the 29th minutes it was Pune who maximize on a chance and attacked the rival goal mouth when Douhou Pierre supplied the ball to Jeje Lalpekjlua, who made no mistake as he tapped the ball over Lajong custodian Lalthuammawia Ralte and gave a lead to his team.
In the 48th minute Khanthang Paite, who had substituted Jejea after he was injured immediately after the first goal, consolidated Pune’s position after he converted Karma Tsewang’s minus ball into a goal with the score card reading 2-0.
Much to the succor of Lajong’s fan the home team reduced the margin in the 59th minute when defender Govin Singh’s powerful shot from 35 yard penetrated into the goal catching Mondal unaware providing the local fans with an opportunity to cheer.
In the 89th minute Lajong were reduced to ten man after referee Pranjal Banerjee
showed red card to goalkeeper Lalthuammawia Ralte for bringing down James Moga and
awarded a penalty kick in favor of visitor. Substitute custodian Basant Singh making a good judgment saved the spot kick taken by Moga.
The flicker of hope of Lajong fans of their team equaling the score line was dashed when the referee blew the final whistle. With this win Pune have collected 26 points from 12 matches while Lajong is gradually sliding down in the points table with just 13 points in its kitty.- By Suraj Joshi
