Shillong Lajong FC is all set to kick off its fresh season as they take on on India’s oldest club Mohum Bagan in the opening I-League match at JN Sports complex Saturday.
The boys’ in red will be a blend of fresh talents playing along old timers with Renedy Singh as the captain and Wailad Passah as vice-captain o for the coming season.
“We have registered about 23 players for I-League and the rest we are trying to fill up with junior boy, and you might be taken aback to see 16 and 17 years boys playing I-League” Lajong coach Desmond Bupin, who had a stint with the AIFF as a coach said.
“We are also looking for a foreign player to fill the vacuum which is likely to be done within a day or two,” he said.
Local stars like Samual, Eugision and Wailad will be in the squad”.
Speaking on the chances of Lajong outplaying its rivals in the I-League, the British coach said, “It is a team work and if the crowed are with us than nothing is impossible to achieve”.
The English coach felt his players are fantastic but said the federation cup was not a good preparation ground. He said, “No doubt it was a good tournament but it was an ankle injuring field as a matter of fact many boys have picked up injury during the tournament.”
Bupin said as Lajong FC is a very small squad, it is very difficult to keep everyone fit when you have a “small squad side.”
