Laitphlang resigns

SHILLONG, AUG 10:  In a major setback to the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM), its 3-time MDC from Nongthymmai Latiplang Kharkongor resigned from the party citing personal reason.

Kharkognor, also a former KHADC EM in-charge Trade in ARPA led Executive Committee, tendered his resignation letter to the KHNAM president Pyndapbor Saibon and general secretary, Batkupar Wahlang.

“I have tendered my resignation from the primary membership of the party,” Kharkongor told newsmen on Monday.

Claiming that it’s purely due to personal reason that he quit the party, he said, “I have decided to continue serving the people of the constituency as an Independent MDC.”

With Kharkongor’s resignation, KHNAM, which is one of the constituent of the ARPA, an opposition alliance in the KHADC, has been reduced to only two MDCs which include former KHADC chief Adelbert Nongrum and Mawkhar MDC James Ban Basaiawmoit.

Earlier, Mawlai MDC Process T Sawkmie also left the party to join the Congress led People’s Democratic Front (PDF), where he is the present Deputy Chief Executive Member (Dy CEM) of the present led executive committee.

When asked whether he would withdraw support from the ARPA, Kharkongor said, “I will continue to support the ARPA at the capacity of an Independent MDC.”- By Our Reporter
