SHILLONG, DEC 23:The Administrative Building of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, East Khasi Hills under the Department of Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare and Director ICAR-ATARI Zone VII was today inaugurated by the Meghalaya Agriculture Minister, B Lyngdoh who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest in the presence of local MLA and Minister, C &RD , H Dohling at 5th Mile, Upper Shillong
It may be mentioned that Krishi Vigyan Kendra act as a small laboratory and extension centre of agricultural research. Each KVK operates on a small farm to test new technologies related to seed varieties or innovative farming methods, developed by ICAR institutes. The building was funded by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).
In his speech as the Chief Guest B Lyngdoh said that with the inauguration of the building, there is a renewed hope for the farmers of the District wherein, the farmers can avail new farming ideas, better seed varieties and new technologies, thus enhancing the produce of the farmers and eventually enhancing their economic condition.
He urged upon the Officers and staff of the KVK to work hand in hand with the farmers in order to make the most of all the benefits being provided to the farmers. He also stated that it is a very special day for the farmers since it also marks the National Farmers Day.
C&RD Minister, H Dohling said that apart from the schemes which are given to farmers, the training and education regarding agriculture plays a more important role in uplifting the welfare of farmers in general. He also encouraged the farmers of the state to approach the government offices to avail various schemes and expressed their problems regarding farming, so as to create a better relationship between the government and the farmers.
During the programme, the Minister also released the publications produced by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, East Khasi Hills and later handed over Power Tillers, Garden Rake, Line Maker and other farming products to various farmers of the district.
Others who spoke on the occasion were, L. Kharkrang, Director of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, B. Wahlang, Senior Scientist, KVK East Khasi Hills and K. Lyngdoh, Joint Director of Agriculture (R&T).
