The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) on Thursday questioned the delay of the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) to conduct the personal interview for the post of assistant engineer (electrical/mechanical) even after a lapse of four years.
In a letter to the MeECL Director (Corporate Affairs), chairman of the KSU Employment Monitoring Cell Reuben Najiar said, “The Union would like to urge the concern authorities of MeECL to explain the public of the State over such a prolonged delay in the recruitment process and also steps and measures to be taken immediately to conduct the personal interview and recruit the eligible candidates in a fair and transparent manner.”
He said the list of the successful candidates of the written test for recruitment to the post of assistant engineer (electrical/mechanical) conducted by the MeECL on July 13, 2019 was published on August 19, 2019 via Notification No.MeECL/CA/PER/Recruitment/137/2019/239.
A total of 24 candidates were declared eligible for the personal interview to be held on August 26, 2019.
However, the MeECL issued another notification on August 22, 2019 stating that the personal interview for the said post has been postponed till further notification.
“The Union is livid with the fact that even after more than 4 years, the concern authorities of the MeECL could not conduct the personal interview which was postponed and never scheduled till date,” Najiar said while adding that this irregularity in the recruitment process has raised concerns over the transparency of the recruitment process in MeECL which in this case seems to be tainted beyond any reason or rhyme.
