SHILLONG, JULY 10: Mawkynroh unit of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) met the Public Work Department minister Sniawbhalang Dhar demanding that the government immediately repair the dilapidated VIP road stretching from Mawlai Mawroh, Mawkynroh-Umshing, Mawtawar to Shillong Airport.
“We demand immediate repairing of the Rs 3.6 crore VIP road constructed but neglected by the state government,” KSU-MU president S Hahshah told reporters after the meeting on Thursday.
According to him, though the project is operational but the road is in a pathetic condition causing havoc and inconveniences to the people residing along the stretch of the road.
He also complaint that the road condition from Mawroh up to Mawkynroh is such that one will find potholes in the whole stretch adding “Such a condition badly affects the commuters along this road, particularly the residents.”
Hahshah said, “The dilapidated condition of the road has also led to increase cases of accidents witnessing regular vehicle collisions because drivers want to avoid the potholes.”
Hahshah also said the KSU urgee the department that the road should be repaired not only by covering the potholes but by black topping.
The minister assured the delegation that he would soon direct the engineers of the PWD to conduct an inspection and take necessary steps accordingly.- By Our Reporter
