SHILLONG, JAN 5: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) expressed its opposition to the decision of the state government to extent the service of chief secretary WMS Pariat for another six months. Pariat was slated to retire on December 31 last year, but the government decided to extent his tenure in the light of the upcoming elections to ensure smooth conduct of the polls.
“We strongly opposed the government’s decision to extend the services of the chief secretary,” KSU general secretary Auguster Jyrwa said in a statement issued on Sunday. He said the government should refrain from such practices as this hinders the promotion for other efficient senior bureaucrats who deserves to occupy the post.”
According to Jyrwa, the KSU is also against any extension granted to other officials whose services have expired.
Criticizing the state government, Jyrwa further questioned the motive behind the decision of state government. “Is the government facing crisis that it does not get other official to replace the incumbent chief secretary or is it because there is something else behind the need to extend his tenure,” he queried.
Jyrwa said the KSU demands that the government should not grant any such extension and allow other deserving officers to take over the post. – By Our Reporter
