SHILLONG, FEB 8: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) on Monday warned action against book-sellers for any attempt of charging exorbitant rate by manipulating the original prices of school textbooks. The statement came at a time when there is heavy rush for purchasing textbooks with the new academic session all set to get started this month.
“We issue strict warning against book-sellers who are trying to charge exorbitant prices on textbooks,” KSU asst education secretary Sonstar Nongkhlaw said in a statement on Monday. He said, “Therefore, all the book-sellers are urged to cooperate by ensuring that they stick and sell according to the original prices of the textbooks as printed by the book publisher companies.”
According to him, there are instances in the past years where book-sellers were found to have manipulated by sticking fake prices on top of the original prices of textbooks. Nongkhlaw also reminded that a meeting which was held with the book-sellers had unanimously decided not to allow such overcharging of school textbooks.
“We also appeal to the general public not accept such textbooks and to bring to the notice of the union if there are such cases of manipulation by the book-sellers,” the asst education secretary added.
Meanwhile, the KSU also extends its best wishes to all the students who will be appearing for the different examinations – Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC), Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC), Bachelor’s Degree and others.-By Our Reporter
