SHILLONG, MAR 21: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) on Monday sought the intervention of the Health Minister James K Sangma for speeding the process of setting up the much-awaited Shillong Medical College.
The delegation was led by the KSU chief Lambok Starwell Marngar. The decision was also taken after the state government had cancelled the contract with the KPC group, a Kolkata based company, for setting up of the Shillong medical college.
“We have urged the minister to take necessary steps to ensure that the setting up of the Shillong medical college is speed-up. We have decided to follow up the matter till the project materializes,” KSU publicity secretary Pynshai Rani said in a statement.
He said the minister had informed the delegation that the state government has no intention to scrap the project adding that the delay to set up the college was due to unavoidable circumstances.
“The state government had decided to scrap the agreement signed with the KPC group, since it was reaching nowhere. Therefore, very soon inviting tender from interested companies will start,” he said.
