SHILLONG, NOV 14: The Kiang Nangbah Government College, Jowai (KNGC) has allegedly failed to entertain an application seeking information under Right To Information (RTI) Act, 2005 on ground that the college is without a public information officer (PIO).
The RTI application was filed by the former general secretary of the Kiang Nangbah Government College Students’ Union (KNGCSU) Justice Paul Lyngdoh on issue relating to alleged irregularities in the appointment of staff in the college.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday, Justice informed that he had on November 14 submitted the RTI application but the same was rejected by the College’s principal OU Lyngdoh.
“The principal had instead rejected the RTI application on ground that the college does not have a public information officer,” Justice said.
Condemning this, the former union leader said the principal had blindly rejected the application without proper grounds.
According to him, chapter II section 5 of the RTI Act 2005 had clearly stated that an RTI application submitted to the authority concerned cannot be rejected except on reasons as specified in chapter II section 8 of the Act.
