SHILLONG, APRIL 03: Meghalaya Governor R. S. Mooshahary today attended Ka Nguh ka Dem ia ki Trai Ri Trai Muluk, which is an annual event organised by the Sengbah ki Nongshat Nongkhein Hynniew Skum Hynniew Trep at Baniun village in the East Khasi Hills.
The traditional religious ceremony of the local Khasis is for the wellbeing of the Hynniew Trep people.
Speaking on the occasion, Mooshahary said that every society has its own indigenous social and ritual practices which need to be preserved and respected. He lauded the Hynniew Skum Hynniew Trep society for their tolerance towards other faiths and beliefs. “As we progress, we have to cultivate and strive for harmony between the scientific advancement and traditional belief,” he added.
Sanjay Goyal, the deputy commissioner of the East Khasi Hills district, released an audio CD “Ki thied ki phniang ba im ka Ri” produced by ki Khun Samla ka Sengbah ki Nongshat Nongkhein Hynniew Skum Hynniew Trep on the occasion.
Others who spoke on the occasion included R. V. Lyngdoh, local MLA, K. C. Khyriem, parliamentary secretary for Arts and Culture, K. Nongrum and J. Hynniewta, president and secretary respectively of ka Sengbah ki Nongshat Nongkhein Hynniew Skum Hynniew Trep. (By Our Reporter)
