SHILLONG, JAN 27: The state government on Monday approved the name of Meena Kharkongor as the chairperson of the Meghalaya State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MSCPCR). Social welfare minister Deborah Marak said Kharkongor name has been approved by the cabinet on Monday.
Kharkongor, who is an advocate by profession, is also a member of the Meghalaya State Women Commission (MSWC). Her name was recommended by the screening committee headed by the minister. Apart from her there were six other applicantsMoris Augustine Jala, SR Sangma, W Kharbuli, BM Sangma and Dr JD Sangma.
Marak also informed that a search committee has been formed for the purpose of appointment of five members of the commission. She said, “The search committee has been given three weeks time to appoint the five members.” She informed that the screening committee will examine the report of the search committee and will place before the cabinet for its approval once the names are finalized.- By Our Reporter
